The 5 Most Underrated Courses in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions

The 5 Most Underrated Courses in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions are

1. History
People don’t just see reasons why someone will go and spend four years or more to study past events. History students are always tagged archaic; their discussions and studies are always based on passed dates and events. You might be tempted to feel superior to someone who all what he has to offer is events that happened even before Christ (BC) in this 21st century.
2. Agriculture
agriculture students are popularly called “farmers”. I don’t know why people look down on this course? Maybe because you always see them in campus with farming tools and in their farm. I am sure others undermine them because they are naive about the fortune they can make with the knowledge of the course. People are going back to Agriculture and embracing it daily, so I believe this should be out of this list soon.
3. Nigerian Languages“
Hey babe! What Course are you studying in school?” and her reply was “Yoruba Language”. My friend bursted into laughter telling me why didn't she just go to a typical village and mingle with the villagers to learn their language, instead of coming to school. Students studying Nigerian Languages faces this downgrade almost every day in school.
4. Education courses
because of the poor treatments being accoladed to teachers in Nigeria, students studying any education course are degraded-students see them as another “suffer head” teacher to be. They have forgotten that without teachers, they won’t be where they are presently and we now have successful teachers making it big.
5. Zoology/botany zoology and Botany are different branches of Biology and what they do is to study plants and animals. Because zoology is related with “Zoo”, other students assumes all the students studying it will end up in the Zoo .Do you agree with this List?  Written by:-Shogat

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MMM NIGERIA

 Image result for mmm images
WHAT IS MMM?
According to Wikipedia, MMM is a Russian company that perpetrated one of the largest ponzi scheme of all time. It was established by Sergei Mavrodi, his brother Vyacheslav Mavrodi and, Olga Melnikova. The name of the company was taken from the first letter’s of the founders surnames.
The Ponzi scheme was created in 1994 and it grew very rapidly.

MMM is a community of people providing each other financial help on the principle of gratuitousness, reciprocity and benevolence.
In MMM you don’t have to make contracts or pledge your property. In MMM there are no lenders and no debtors. Everything is very simple: one participant asks for help — another one helps.
The only thing that MMM demands from its participants is to be honest and kind to each other. You ask for financial help when you need it, you give financial help when you are able to do it.
VERY IMPORTANT!
There is no сentral account, where all the System money flows to (and where it can be easily stolen from :-)). All the money is only on the banking accounts of the participants themselves! On a lot of thousand and million private accounts. Participants transfer to each other directly, without intermediaries! (What are they for? :-)) In fact, MMM only regulates the process — nothing more.
So the System completely belongs to people. No kidding! It is a real mutual aid fund where ordinary people help each other.

WHAT IS MMM NIGERIA?
MMM Nigeria is the Nigerian arm of this infamous Ponzi scheme. Investors are offered 30% Return on Investment (ROI) in a month by offering help.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Interested investors are required to sign up on the MMM Nigeria website and submit their bank details. After which they’d be offered two options of whether to “offer help” or “get help”. Investors who offer this help are expected to get 30% profit + initial investment after 30 days. There is a referral system which credits user who invite others a particular percent of their transaction.

IS MMM NIGERIA A SCAM?

MMM Nigeria is a Ponzi scheme which is categorised under fraudulent business types. In plain financial terms it offers no legitimate backing and the money pool is controlled by the owner of the scheme. Sounds like a scam. Risky sturvs.

AFTER GRADUATION WHAT NEXT?

CLASS OF 2016

After Graduation What Next

Effective networking is achieved through cultivating relationships over time. Reach out to your contacts particularly those with whom you already have a personal, professional or academic connection. Do they know that you are looking for a job? Improve the presentation of your CV and make sure they know what your skills and talents are, so that they keep you in mind if they hear of any openings.
If you have been an active member of professional or business associations, on-campus organisations, stay in touch and keep those connections alive; such networking activities provide good opportunities for job leads. Stay in touch with former managers from internships and part-time jobs; if you left a good impression, they might be able to help. Many great job opportunities are not advertised; they are often filled by personal contacts.
If you are broke and are not one of those fortunate enough to be housed and fed by your relations for an indefinite period, you cannot afford to sit at home until you find your dream job. Don’t focus solely on your area of study, be flexible and broaden your scope, expanding your search to related fields; this will boost your chances of finding something that will still utilise your training and abilities and enhance your skills.
If you regard every other position as demeaning and “beneath you” as you are in fact “a graduate,” you could be in for a long wait. Be humble and ready to start at the bottom and work your way up. There may be opportunities working in a restaurant, as a sales assistant in a shop, baby sitting and lots of other temporary jobs that will keep you busy and give you some badly needed cash until something more in line with your expectations and credentials turns up.
Try to identify that special gift or talent that you might have ignored before now. Do people always comment on your photography or writing skills? Are you good at public speaking or organising, web-design or programming? Can you design clothes or model them? If you can play musical instruments to a decent standard, there may be freelance work as a singer, pianist, church organist or violinist, and at private receptions. There may be opportunities to offer tutorial services in a subject that you excelled in, to students in your area. There are endless options and not only will you be earning, but you will also open yourself to opportunities and contacts that may be of help in your job hunt.
One way to get a foot in the door with a company or organisation is to demonstrate to them what you can do, even without pay. By working as an intern or volunteering, you have an opportunity to impress by showcasing your skills, commitment and professionalism. This might make them want to hire you. Even if they don’t, you would have gained valuable experience. Of course if you have no assistance whatsoever from family or friends, it will be difficult to work for free.
Try to avoid having significant gaps of unemployment in your CV to have to explain in interviews. A future employer will be impressed that you did not just sit at home doing nothing but you kept yourself occupied gaining experience and new skills.
When you are young and free of significant financial or personal commitments such as a family, rent and other debt, you have a unique opportunity to take some risk and consider establishing your own business if you are so inclined. Do you have what you consider to be a great idea that you are passionate about and doesn’t have huge start up costs? You may be surprised at what you can accomplish. There may be comfort in numbers. Perhaps you could consider partnering with a classmate or a friend whose skills complement yours and set up something together.
While no learning is wasted, avoid fleeing into an expensive and lengthy graduate programme that may not necessarily give you an edge. As far as possible, seek continuous training and experience that can directly support any chosen career path. Professional qualifications or certifications, or shorter courses to improve your IT and other practical skills can be of great value. Basic skills in languages such as Mandarin will also broaden your scope.
The hard reality is that being a graduate never guaranteed anyone immediate employment. As you wait for the “right” job, open yourself to various opportunities and experiences. Cultivate friendships with people who remain positive in spite of challenges, as they will give you the encouragement you need to get through this phase.
What are the lessons learnt and the opportunities that you can create out of this experience? Despair and depression will only make you less attractive to potential employers. Above all, maintain a sense of optimism and resilience and keep your spirit and energy levels up through exercise. It is that strength of character and self-confidence that will make you stand out and help to get you through an employer’s door or even the door of your own small business.

TOP REASONS WHY EDUCATION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

educationYou may be knowing your A’s and B’s and C’s, but are you educated or just literate? No rolling your eyeballs please, there is a difference. Literacy is knowing how to read and write. Education is to be able to reason, to use your ability to read and write to your benefit and to be able to gain your spectrum of knowledge by trying to surge deeper into the literate knowledge imparted to you.  We’ve had debates innumerable about why is it important for every country to increase the literacy rates of its citizens, but is merely doing that enough? No, we do not need just literate citizens, but educated ones too. We do not want to be a group of people who can read and write but make nothing out of it. Wondering what education makes of us? It makes us human, a robot can read and write to, but reason? Here are reasons why education is extremely important.

15. Avoiding societal embarrassment

Do you know that the societal segments were based more on your education than economic worth, just economically better off could afford better education too. Women were the aliens of the already alienated because they weren’t seen as able to mingle in a society where reasoning happened. It is extremely important that you be at par with the knowledge database to be able to mingle in a certain societal setting without being made to feel embarrassed or an outcast. Education helps you broaden that spectrum of knowledge and hold your own mind and reason.

14. Forgoing baseless superstitions

Are you aware that most superstitions we follow still were a brainchild of the educated and had a scientific reason to support it. Ironic that superstition today is deeply integrated in the culture of the uneducated. Why? Because they never seemed to reason why are they following a tradition blindly and hence times changed, the scientific reason held no ground for superstitions to carry on, but those on whom it rested to forego, had little ability to reason and let it go. You can never undermine the role of education in order to make a society free of baseless superstitions.

13. Reasoning against the illogical

You’d never believe anything without a reason, if only you have a reason for it. Take for example the inability of uneducated farmers to examine and analyse the quality or fertility of soil for a particular harvest and later regret and believe that the rain gods were displeased with them. They’d spend more on rituals to please the Rain God than they would to increase soil quality. If only they knew.

12. Keeping up with evolutions

You cannot keep up with evolutions unless you are aware of them. Awareness comes from Education. Imagine a world without WhatsApp! Was life really that hard before WhatsApp happened? Maybe not, but it certainly made life easier. This was only a grain of salt in what I’d say is an ocean of evolutions, all in one way or the other made to simplify your life.

11. Exposure to the World

Is it remotely possible to know of all the other nations while remaining in your own. It is. You’d have to read and place your understanding of the reading in the cultural and historical context of that nation in a particular period. You’d know just about everything French, Roman and Greek. You’d be able to build your understanding of their language and culture without simply terming them all as ‘foreign’.

10. No more a fool :Keeping your own mind

An educated person would listen to all, and do what suits him best. It is highly impossible to fool an educated person for it would take reasoning and logic to get him in the trap. Educations keeps you from being trapped in advisories that are no more fruitful than digging your house for the pot of gold.

9. A Healthier Lifestyle and living

Remember the world before anti-biotic happened? Or vaccines? Or sanitary napkins? Now place yourself where education is a luxury. Would you be aware of the medical or lifestyle finds which help detect and cure a disease. Are you aware that almost every person is allergic to 5 foods in his lifetime which may cause auto immune diseases? An educated person would know his health, live longer and healthier by resorting to healthier alternatives.

8. Adapting to newer techniques for productivity

There’s a reason why scientists are being paid in billions of dollars to build machinery that decreased the need for man power. It is however impossible to reap the benefits of that machinery has it to be used by those who have no knowledge of how to operate the machine for better productivity. Why else to you think most farmers, till date, swear by the traditional technique of irrigation.

7. Ethical values that help make the world more peaceful

It is in the habit of uneducated to spring up on arguments and cause harm to others and most to himself. Education would rather channel your temper towards a more productive and peaceful goal. While no nation would be at crisis, it would be only a more peaceful world without wars and battles.

6. Imparts ability to work across genres and cultures

Tell an uneducated person to work in a setting alien to him, you’d ask him to walk on a path of self destruction. Ask an educated man to travel nations and transmute the barriers of language and culture, you’d be testing his spirit of taking challenges and succeeding in them. The difference here has not to be of intellectual capacity, but it takes more self confidence than knowledge to not be intimidated by challenges life throws on you.

5. Economic growth of the nation

When the people of a nation are educated, they’d definitely carve ways to be self sufficient. An economically independent society is the stepping stone to combined productivity that leads to a economic growth of the nation on a whole. Now you know how those countries are doing so well for themselves?

4. A longer, disease free life for the younger generation

No intention of gender bias, but statistics reveal that if the mothers are educated, chances are that child mortality rates reduce by less than half. In fact, this is a reason by urban, educated women have healthier children almost free of diseases. Also, if either parent has received formal education, chances are they’d have fewer kids with better lifestyles than depend on more working hands by conceiving more kids. Also, educated parents immunize their kids and make sure that they play major role in their growth and development.

3. The Will to Keep trying till success strikes

It is only through education that you’d have multiple level goals and a number of ways to reach them. You’d have dreams which transmute to thoughts and later into actions. Your will to get your dream to turn true will be undeterred and you’d try in every way possible till you succeed. The uneducated may have better intellectual and labour capacity but the lack of understanding of multiple ways to achieve their goals is often an obstacle.

2. Earn your own living

With evolving lifestyles, steep inflation rates and luxuries transcending into needs, it is only impossible for a family to depend and thrive on one bread earner. You ought to work for self sufficiency and dependency and education helps you gain job opportunities for financial independence. Also, education helps you build a network with people who’s resources might work the best in your benefit if you so choose to be self employed.

1.Happiness abound : Stable, balanced, self dependent life.

You know why being educated is extremely important? Because for you to be happy, you need to feel good from within. It is only possible to have a stable mind and a balances life once you are self dependent and have a reputable standing in the society. By simply being educated you’d have little job insecurity, no inferiority complex and a well organized understanding of the world. Education may not be the key to happiness, but it definitely is the key to a lot of other things which come together to make you happy.

UGOMMA, THE VILLAGE EFFIGY

This touching poem tells the story of a woman who was once the talk of town but suddenly has become another history dumped in the dustbin of time as yet another lesson for everyone to learn.

I remember you now, Ugomma
That was your name
It was on the lips of all growing boys, even mine
The sound of your moan was our night dreams
You rode on hurrah, and sweet eulogies
Sapping praises here and there
Like Achilles, son of Peleus, the greatest of warriors
From tots to grey-headed men
We lined up for a hug from your soft flesh
As we filled our thoughts with pictures of your body
You fed our desires with your curves
Waking cravings hidden in our loins
While brave boys crammed lines to woo you
Wives had harsh words for your ears
They hated you with passion

Ugomma, you were a proud monster
Breaking homes and breaking hearts
Your beauty made adults whine like boys
You killed us all with your contagious smile
Flashing dimples one wished to have
As you infused in us a new life
You were prettier in your youth more than Aphrodite
Men adored you with flavoured praises
And gods died of envy
Those days were all yours
Death to Ravana the demon-king
He tried to steal you from us once

Today, I sit here drowned by fiery thoughts
Sitting here reasoning with life
Thinking about you and the days gone-by
Age has made a mess of your face
For the iyanga days are over
Those days you calmed hell with a peck
While desire camped at your back
And all of you was made of ravishing beauty
The town smelled of your perfume
Every man wore it with such proud smile
Drooling at the sight of your face
We stored your voice in our memories
Wishing to own it for life
As gifts poured in like rain
Your lips were dotted red
Filled with giant temptations
And your eyes were full of worldly wonders
Where stars melted and formed diamonds
No one dared miss to know you
For you reigned in every man's thoughts

Today, Ugomma walks on lonely stairs
Deserted like many towns in Syria
Where fighter jets unleash smoking blows
Like a boxer who swore with his life to win a fight
Wrinkles play pranks on your tired face
And your backside has become deflated
Stretch marks sip juices there while crossing legs
Making mockery of your past glory
Old age has refused to hear your pleas
You've become history in the hearts of men
And now we the youths of those days no longer smile at you
We hiss at the sight of your presence
For your body has spent many years in life's university
Drilled to coma by many promiscuous men
It has graduated with failure
Your history no longer matter
Oh! Ugomma, you've become an effigy
Life!

To Quickly Save Data On Your Android
Image result for android phones

* Restrict background data
* Use browser with data saving feature
* Set data limit
* Set app updates over wifi only
* Use opera max app
* Use data monitoring apps
* Turn off data roaming

Restrict Background Data
Yes! you guessed right, this is placed at number one because most android user don't get know anything about background data or if it exist.

Heres a little something on background data

As the name implies its simply help background running apps like whatsapp, facebook, to receive or use data even when you are not using the app thus leading to loss of data without you knowing.
If you are the kind that does not have enough data bundle on his or her android device and would like to turn off this feature please follow these steps.

* Go to settings.
* Click on data usage.
* Click on the small icon at the top to display a menu.
* Tick on the restrict background data option .

Use Browser With Data Saving Feature

Most of you just use browser like Opera mini and UC without knowing about the data saving features on it.
If you are a die hard Opera and UC browser user like me you would notice that Opera and UC has being making moves to help their consumers reduce data consumption by adding data saving options.
If you are using your phone's or laptop default browser I would advise you to switch to Opera mini or UC browser.

Alternatively you can set image quality to medium or low.

Set Data Limit

If you don't want to over use your data bundle you can easily set up data limit to notify or switch off the data connection when the data limit is reached.
To set up date limit on your android smartphone follow these steps.

* Go to settings
* Go to data usage then click on set data limit.

Note: use your hand to adjust the level to the amount of data available.

Use Opera Mini Max App

Alternatively you can use the Opera mini max app to compress videos, texts and picture hence reducing data consumption.

Set App Updates Over Wifi Only

You must have gotten a notification of an update about/of an application. If would be wise to set this to off or over wifi to unwanted data loss.

Use Data Monitoring Apps

To add to it, you can also use data monitoring apps to keep tabs on how much data you are consuming.

This feature can also be found on opera mini and UC browsers.

Turn Off Data Roaming

This is almost the same with background data.
This allows an app to receive data when you are roaming.

To turn this off follow the same steps you use to turn off background data.

Then tick on turn data roaming to off.

These are just some of the few ways to save data on your android phone
